Rear Screen Cup Signage

On your window,
a pint that keeps
pouring itself

No rectangular monitor. No screen border. A rear screen cut to the exact silhouette of a glass — a projector pours video into it, and the street stops walking.

Why Cup Signage

Nothing is mounted,
yet a screen is floating there

Cup Signage isn't an LED panel — it's a sign made of light. Only the cup floats behind the glass, so people who see it for the first time stop and look twice.

01

A screen with no frame

No rectangular border — only the cup silhouette on the glass. The background stays your store, which is why it reads as a real object, not a display.

02

Content that moves

Only video can do this. Beer keeps filling, iced coffee swirls. When the season or the menu changes, you swap a file.

03

A sign that wins at night

SPG rear-projection screen paint pushes light out toward the street. The darker it gets, the higher the contrast — from dusk to late night, when foot traffic peaks, it's the brightest thing on the block.

How It Works

From a sheet of acrylic
to the eyes on the street

STEP 1Cut & SPG-coated — finished in our workshop

Cut & SPG-coated — finished in our workshop

Acrylic is precision-cut to the exact silhouette of the glass, then coated with SPG, our rear-screen paint. Every step happens at the Paintpam workshop, and it ships as a finished product.

STEP 2On site, you just hang it

On site, you just hang it

The finished cup screen is hung on the inside of the window with wire. No painting, no construction — no fumes and no closing the store.

STEP 3Gear inside, picture outside

Gear inside, picture outside

Both screen and projector sit inside the store, so nothing is visible from the street. Outside, only the cup appears to float in mid-air.

STEP 4Rear projection

Rear projection

The projector inside the store throws video from behind the screen. From the street, viewers see a crisp, correctly-oriented picture.

💡
Why rear projection? — The projector hides inside the store, so it never blocks the sidewalk and no one casts a shadow across the image. And because screen paint applies to almost anything, not only cups but any free-form silhouette can become a screen.

On The Street

The sign that makes
passers-by pull out a phone

  • Talked about before opening — Even during installation, before the doors opened, people stopped to film it.
  • Brand recall — Your logo and label are projected onto the glass, so the signature drink is what sticks.
  • Peaks at night — The darker it gets, the higher the contrast — it's the brightest sign on the street after dark.
  • Almost no upkeep — Plug in power and it plays every day. On a laser projector, roughly 20,000 hours with no lamp changes.

Content & CMS

Two ways to run the content

We supply content from our content market. How you run it depends on the store's internet.

CMS · internet available

Swap content remotely

Upload content and manage the store's screen remotely from the Paintpam CMS — playlists and schedules included.

FAQ

Frequently asked

The questions we get most — answered straight.

QIs it visible in daylight?
Honestly — no. With rear projection, the brighter the surroundings, the weaker the image. Cup Signage is at its best from dusk into the night. There are ways to push daytime visibility, but the cost rarely justifies it, so we don't recommend it. In return, during the evening hours when foot traffic peaks and sales are decided, it's the brightest sign on the street.
QHow much does it cost?
Pricing is on request. It depends on the cup spec, content, quantity and your region — and overseas, the projector and installation are sourced locally, so those aren't in our quote. Tell us your market and setup and we'll prepare a tailored quote covering the screen, CMS, content and shipping.
QDo you supply the projector?
Not overseas. The projector and installation are arranged locally — we advise the right laser-projector spec for your space. We supply the cup screen, CMS and content, and support the setup remotely.
QCan it be visible from inside the store too?
It depends on the install, but the baseline design is 20% reflection : 80% transmission. Most of the light is pushed out toward the street, so it's sharpest from outside; from inside you see a soft, left-right mirrored image. If inside visibility matters, tell us — we can factor it into the design.
QCan it be a shape other than a beer glass?
Yes. Any silhouette that can be cut from acrylic works. Coffee cups, cocktail and wine glasses, and free-form screens like bottles, desserts or logos are made the same way. The content is produced to match the shape.
QIs it a big installation job?
No. Cutting and SPG coating are finished at our workshop and it ships as a finished product. On site, the work is hanging it inside the glass with wire and setting the projector — no fumes, no closing the store.
QHow do I change the video when the season changes?
You just swap the file. With internet, use the CMS to change content and schedules remotely; without it, swap the USB. Draft beer in summer, a hot latte in winter — being able to change content per season or event is Cup Signage's biggest advantage.
QDo I switch it on and off every day?
A separate media player (CMS set-top) handles playback, so schedules and content are managed online. Projectors are typically laser models, good for about 20,000 hours with no lamp changes.
QWe're a chain — can HQ manage every branch?
Yes. Add the central control system and HQ can manage each branch's content and playback schedule online — swapping content across every location at once for a launch or seasonal promotion.
About Paintpam

We turn surfaces into screens

Paintpam develops and manufactures rear-projection screen paint. Glass, acrylic, a plain wall — the moment it's coated, that surface becomes a screen. Cup Signage is one branch of that technology: it started at a Dunkin' in New York seven years ago, and today it runs in storefronts and international exhibitions.
